Company History

The Company was established in 1915 and at that time was a manufacturer of disc clutches and power take-off units. These were supplied to large engine manufacturers for fitting into barges, stone crushing equipment, laundry machinery, dumper trucks, mobile drilling equipment and many other uses. The Company still supplies new and replacement units for those industries today, together with spare parts to a worldwide customer base.

In 1977 the Company realised that this business could not go on expanding and decided to diversify the business away from power transmission equipment towards the manufacture of two-dimensional shaped components.

This involved setting up a wire erosion company for the manufacture of press tools and dies together with precision parts for scientific equipment. Although the operation was successful it highlighted weaknesses in relation to component cost.

After an investigation to find an alternative manufacturing technique a demonstration laser provided a possible solution. The machine was however not entirely appropriate to the requirements. The machine had however provided a stimulus to design a CNC laser profile cutter. 1979 saw the start of the design process in conjunction with Ferranti and two years later a machine producing excellent quality cutting of steel emerged.

Since then the Company has continually invested in providing new equipment to stay at the forefront in the laser cutting business, whilst providing many additional services to complement this. These are shown on various pages on the web site.
